Summary

This book explores the many inventions that Benjamin Franklin has invented more than two hundred years ago and how these things are still used today. Some of his notable inventions are the lightening rod, the grabber, flippers, chairs, and clock with a second hand. The book also explains his other inventions as well and how it has been redeveloped over time, with the pattern of now and then. Although his inventions were life-changing, his greatest contribution to the world came in the form of a document. These documents had a strong impact globally. He helped shaped America's Constitution, Treaty of Alliance with France, Treaty of Peace with England, but most importantly, the Declaration of Independence. Without his many inventions and contributions to our country, we wouldn't be where we are today. His inventions will continue to become the blueprint of many more inventions in the future.

Teacher Evaluation

This book was honestly so cool! I didn't know that he contributed so much in our world through his inventions. Before reading this book the only thing that I knew he invented was the lightening rod and his contribution to the Declaration of Independence. It's an entertaining, yet informative book. I also really liked the illustrations, having a modern yet old feel to it, which connects with the title. I would incorporate this book in my classroom if I was teaching students from 1st to 4th grade. This book would be great for students to learn about where the things they still use today came from. Because this book talks about Benjamin Franklin, I can also use it in a social studies unit about him and slowly cover the important documents that he has participated in as well. A fun activity that students can do after reading this book, is create their own inventions and afterwards share it to the class.
