Summary

This story written by Laura Numeroff describes what happens after a boy gives a mouse a cookie. After the mouse gets a cookie, it asks for a glass of milk. After getting some milk, the mouse asks for a straw. After this, a series of events follow, where the mouse keeps asking for requests. When one event occurs, this leads the mouse to want something else, which seems never-ending. Towards the end of the story the mouse was thirsty and again, asks for milk. Once it asks for milk, we know what will happen next.

Evaluation - Would I Incorporate this book in the Classroom?

This book was super fun to read. I love how the illustrations are more present in the book, than the text. I liked how in this book, the text was kept short and simple, and I was still able to follow along what is going on. I do see myself using this book in the classroom. I feel like it teaches kids about being responsible. It can be as simple as getting a pet and they have to take care of its needs, just like the rat that the boy let in. It can also either be responsible around the house, like doing chores. I see myself using this book in a Kindergarten through 2nd grade class. A comprehension activity that I can do, is give the students a print out of a bubble map for this story, or some type of sequence graphic organizer, and have the students fill in the events that occurred in the story.
