Summary
This book by Georgia Heard is a collection of poems about the wonderful creatures of the sea and the sky. It gives short details about animals like the fishes, ducks, frogs, bats, bears, whales, eagles, and etc. It covers a wide range of animals. From animals of the aquatic life, to amphibians, mammals, and reptiles. These animals can fly in the sky, swim in the sea, or live on land. This book also named other types of animals that exist in the same category, from the characteristics of the animals, and what they do in their natural habitat to survive.
Evaluation - Would I Incorporate this Book in the Classroom?
I enjoyed reading this book because it was very informative. It gave me the basic information about each animal without going too deep into it. The illustrations were nice and the way this poem is presented in the book is really unique. I didn't get bored reading the poems. Some rhymed and some didn't, which made it fun. I really do see myself using this book in my classroom, but more on the science side. Students are able to learn so much about a variety of animals. I believe there were about 16 different types of animals covered in this book. I can read over this book with the class and for an activity, the students can pick out an animal from this book and research more about them. Although this book recommends ages 2-5, I believe this is still appropriate for higher elementary grade levels. After researching, students then can present what they found about the animals. This is a great book to show students that nature is indeed beautiful!
